Deliberative
democracy

Decisions about the climate and the future of our territories are better when people have time to get informed, deliberate and make proposals. That is why we design and facilitate citizens' assemblies: local people who learn from experts, discuss in small facilitated groups and bring their proposals to those who govern.

Today

Today, Transistor leads our work on deliberative democracy.

In the past we designed and facilitated assemblies directly as Rinascimento Green, as the AssembraMenti story below shows. Today this work is carried forward by Transistor, the community we founded: it is our project dedicated to deliberative democracy. It is already involved in the National Assembly on the Future promoted by ASviS and Ecosistema Futuro, and it is also working on other assemblies, such as the one for the Sardinia Region. On Transistor's website you'll find in-depth material and updates on what is emerging.

How it works

Learn, deliberate, propose.

  1. The group

Through open registration or random selection, we bring together a group that reflects the territory and its diversity.

  2. Training

Lessons and materials with experts, universities and local organisations: to deliberate, you first need to know.

  3. Discussion tables

In small facilitated groups, people discuss, listen to different points of view and build shared proposals.

  4. Proposals

The proposals are presented to those who govern, asking for concrete and measurable commitments.

Where we started

AssembraMenti: climate, work, inclusion.

Between 2021 and 2022, as Rinascimento Green, we brought our first citizens' assemblies to Emilia-Romagna, Calabria and Lazio, with the support of the European Climate Foundation. The first two produced more than twenty proposals, refined together with experts.

Emilia-Romagna

The first of our assemblies. The three big themes, climate, work and inclusion, were joined by topics chosen by people in the region through an online questionnaire. After training with national experts came work in thematic tables and a final public session with regional representatives and members of parliament from different parties.
