Five flagship projects, five principles and five guidelines for using the European recovery funds for people and for the climate.
About us
Rinascimento Green was founded in Italy in July 2019 as an independent initiative: to bring together different parts of civil society and build a grassroots Green Deal, with people’s participation.
Where we started
From the start we chose to be an independent project, tied to no party and open to every part of society: an informal coalition of people and organisations united by shared principles and methods.
In 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, environment, health and the economy showed themselves for what they are: three interlinked crises. With an online survey we gathered tens of thousands of proposals, ideas and points of view from around 8,500 people. With the help of scientists and experts they became a proposal for a transition plan: a Green New Deal for Italy.
In just two years a broad and varied network grew around this work: Catholic, radical, environmental and trade union groups. At a difficult time for the country we set our differences aside to focus on the priorities.
Since then our work has followed three directions:
“Environment, health, economy: three words that seem to describe different worlds, but today more than ever they are interconnected.”
Progetto di Lustro
When Europe put the Recovery Fund on the table, we coordinated the collective writing of a document of proposals and principles to use it well: Progetto di Lustro. We wrote it in autumn 2020 and presented it in March 2021, together with a large and varied group of organisations.
It holds our way of looking at the future: fewer emissions, decent work, protected health and land, more participation and fairness. Five flagship projects, five principles for using the funds and five guidelines for the government’s work, so that after five years we could measure whether the country had really moved forward.
Its principles already included involving people directly, with citizens’ assemblies to decide how to use the funds, locally too. A few months later we started organising them, with AssembraMenti.
Our principles
A plan to stay within 1.5 degrees and, at the same time, to create jobs in a fairer, more inclusive economy.
Building resilience, tackling the ecosystem crisis and making places healthy and safe matters as much as cutting emissions.
No party behind us: a project rooted in civil society that aims to involve every part of society.
No more public money for oil and gas: those resources should go to social and climate justice policies.
Time is short: many sustainable, proven technologies already exist; what is missing is the will and the right policies to use them.
No choice can be made in favour of one part of the population and against another.

The story goes on.
Today we carry it forward with Transistor, with our campaigning and with SICER’s training.
